Alexander Robert Moon, of Columbia and a student at Glenelg Country School, was honored by the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth for receiving the highest score in verbal tests and placed second in combined verbal and quantitative testing among Maryland fifth-graders who took an above-grade-level test given to second- through eighth-grade Talent Search participants.

The Columbia Association's lifeguard competition team finished in second place at the 2008 Ellis & Associates International Lifeguard Challenge, held in Gurnee, Ill., July 30-31. This year's team consisted of Jason Bazell, Pat Chamberlain, Marina Metzler, Rachel Zimmerman, Adrian Gibbs and Thomas Stavely.
