Mary French RN, LCSW-C, a Howard County resident, has been selected by the American Pain Foundation to lead efforts in raising awareness of pain management issues in Maryland. As part of this leadership responsibility, French was awarded a scholarship to attend the Power Over Pain Action Network advocacy training in Minneapolis Oct.3-5.

As the Action Network leader for Maryland, French will lead the effort to promote pain awareness, serve as a cohesive link with existing pain management organizations and participate in a national network with the goal of building a massive consumer voice to improve pain management.

The John G. Monteabaro Charitable Foundation will award Howard Community College $400,000 by establishing two endowments. The first endowment of $150,000 will be created for promising music majors at the college. The gift, which will provide 50 percent to 100 percent of tuition, will create a permanent endowment designed to provide significant scholarships for several deserving and talent music majors attending Howard Community College.

A second gift of $250,000 will be established to maintain the John G. Monteabaro Recital Hall, which provides a state-of-the-art performance venue for the college community and music followers throughout the region.
