Two of my e-mails remind me that preschool registration time is here. Judy Haxton, a Whiskey Bottom area resident, in North Laurel, and volunteer marketing director for Open Arms Christian Child Development Center, informed me that the center will hold an open house Monday, Aug. 11 from 5 to 7 p.m.

This will allow parents to see children and teachers in action. Open Arms is at Our Savior Lutheran Church at 13611 Laurel-Bowie Road, across the road from the Towne Center Giant, in Laurel.

Open Arms provides day care for infants through preschoolers. There is a before- and after-school program with bus transportation available from many nearby schools. For children who are 3 and 4 years old, there is a half day program available.

The Center operates from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. each weekday. There are still some spaces available for children to become an Open Arms child. Come to the Open House or call the Open Arms Center at 240-568-9352.

Director Barbara Bloodworth of Emmanuel Methodist Preschool would like to thank Bill Dupree and the Clarksville Lions Club for screening all the children for vision this past year. Emmanuel Methodist Preschool provides a weekday preschool to help children grow and develop physically, socially, emotionally and intellectually.

The goal of the center is to provide children an opportunity to explore, question, discover and experience the world around them. Each child is recognized as a person of infinite worth. Music, cooking, and physical education programs are included for 4-year-olds.

For information about openings or the waiting list, call the school at 301-725-5178 or e-mail director@emmanuelpreschool.com. The school is at 10755 Scaggsville Road. Both schools charge a fee.
