U.S. Air Force Maj. Joshua W. Meyer has been decorated with the Bronze Star Medal for participating in Operation Iraqi Freedom while serving at an overseas forward operating base. The medal is awarded to an individual who, while serving in the armed forces, had performed a heroic act, meritorious achievement or distinguished service during armed conflict or ground combat while engaged against an armed enemy of the United States.

Meyer currently serves as the force structure branch chief assigned to Headquarters, Strategic Plans and Programs at the Pentagon, in Washington.

He is the son of Michael and Diane Meyer, of New London, Minn. His wife, Air Force Maj. Heather Meyer, is the daughter of Michael and Holly McFarland, of Columbia.

Junior Dalila Smith has been promoted to the top leadership ranks of the Air Force Junior ROTC detachment at Randolph-Macon Academy in Front Royal, Va. She is the daughter of Rodney Smith, of Columbia.

Dalila was selected for the position of First Squadron First Sergeant with the rank of cadet master sergeant. She is a member of the Honor Guard, the Color Guard, the Drill Team and the community service program.
