Check out ORB, the band including Elkridge's own Owen Gerus, Cooper Gerus and Bo Oliver on YouTube! Simply go to YouTube and enter "ORB Werewolves of London" to watch our famous Elkridge kids or click on the link here.
The local band performed the Warren Zevon classic "Werewolves of London" with a guest singer, Jodi Bahrijczuk. I also saw Josh Bahrijczuk adding some percussion to the song.
"This gig was a Halloween block party in Elkridge. It was a great crowd and fun evening! Soon there will be more from ORB on YouTube: clips from Artscape, Summer's End Jam and Avalon Ramp Jam," Lori Gerus said.
Music is certainly in the air in Elkridge. Steve Wampler, the instrumental band teacher at Elkridge Elementary School would like to sincerely thank those in Elkridge who have donated musical instruments to the music department.
The Elkridge Elementary music program has received about a dozen musical instruments from the Elkridge Rotary Club and a resident of the Elkridge Senior Apartment Complex. Giving the gift of music can change the lives of children, and it's much appreciated.
"This is the advantage of teaching in a real community like Elkridge. There's a history and community pride here," Wampler said.
Mike Merson, a representative from the Elkridge Rotary Club, dropped off two more trumpets and three clarinets just a few weeks ago.
Music truly does inspire greatness, happiness and overall achievement in children. It says on the Howard County Web site: "The study of music gives children a broadened world vision and an appreciation of other points of view. As a performing art, music builds self-discipline and promotes self-esteem in ways that are not inherent in other curricular offerings. Because of the ordered nature of the elements of music, students learn to think with increased complexity; because of the creative potential in music, they learn to think in divergent ways."
Both band and string instruments are still needed at Elkridge Elementary School, so why not give the gift of music and donate the ones you no longer use? It's also an end of the year tax deduction that we are are looking for.
Nancy Grabowski has planned her annual Holiday Greens and Crafts Sale for the community to shop for all those beautiful, fresh decorations that make your home special for the holidays. It will be held Dec. 5-7 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 5820 Augustine Ave., in Elkridge.
Fresh wreaths, roping, swags, centerpieces and fireside baskets are just a few of the items she will be selling. If you have any questions, call Grabowski at 410-796-5114.
Congratulations Jean Campen for being the friendliest neighbor of Elkridge! I have known her for only a few years, but she has been dedicated neighbor who truly cares about the community for many years.
"Jean is the corresponding secretary of the Elkridge Heritage Society. I am nominating her as the friendliest neighbor because she works hard to organize interesting bi-monthly general meetings and is an integral part of the EHS," Michele Miller said.
"Jean comes up with novel ideas for speakers and presenters, then follows through to invite them and coordinate their appearance at a meeting. She is gracious, always thanking and acknowledging everyone else and their contributions. The EHS has been lucky to have Jean as a Board Member for the past four years," she added.
I join the community in saying "Thanks!" to Jean for your enthusiastic devotion to Elkridge.
Please remember to give thanks and count your blessings today. Whether you are traveling to far away places or staying at home today, make this Thanksgiving safe and enjoy spending time with your families and loved ones.
