The Howard County Board of Education will gather input from the community regarding the school system's operating budget at a forum Nov. 11, at 7 p.m., at the Homewood Center, in Ellicott City.

The public forum, called "What Counts," is intended as a way for school officials to gauge the community's priorities, board member Patricia Gordon said.

A similar open forum, run by the Maryland Association of Boards of Education, was held in Howard County in November 2005. This fall's forum will be focused on the system's operating budget.

"Last time, we had a great mix," Gordon said. "We were really surprised at the number of people who came out and shared their ideas with us."
