Memorial for Jim McCrumb> The PTSA and Student Government Association of Mt. Hebron High School will host a "Celebration of the Life of Jim McCrumb," Saturday, Sept. 27, 2 p.m. at Mt. Hebron High School, 9440 Route 99, in the auditorium. McCrumb, who died June 21, was principal of Mt. Hebron from 1967 to 1987. In addition to being an influence on many students and faculty, he was instrumental in establishing many of the traditions and organizations at Mt. Hebron.

Holiday fun and master gardeners> Children and families are invited to Whipps Garden Cemetery, 3651 St. John's Lane (just south of Rita's) Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. to make holiday decorations using pumpkins and gourds. Rain date: Oct.12. Howard County Master Gardeners will give talks and demonstrations at the new outdoor theater. Refreshments. No admission fee. Catherine Barker and Caitlyn Carrico, of Ellicott City, were named to the spring 2008 dean's list at American University.

Ryan Cherniak, of Woodbine, was named to the dean's list at University of Rochester for the spring 2008 semester.
