Celebrate Oktoberfest
The Maryland Brewer's Oktoberfest happens Saturday, Oct. 11, noon-8 p.m., at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium. Featured will be 12 breweries, performances by popular local acts like the Kelly Bell Band, and Miss Oktoberfest and beer belly contests. Scottish fun
The annual Anne Arundel Scottish Highland Games will commence once again Saturday, Oct. 11, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., at the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds (on Route 178). The agenda will include a fiddling competition, exhibitions of Scottish dogs and highland cattle, a pipe band competition, and an exhibition of more than 40 Scottish clans (the "Parade of Clans"). Crabs for charity
Stella Maris Hospice will hold its annual Crab Feast and Auction Sunday, Oct. 12, 1-6 p.m., at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium. The all-you-can-eat event will also offer a full buffet, beer and sodas. Money raised will go towards Stella Maris' services, which include long-term care, home care, hospice care, rehabilitation and recovery programs. Admission is $55 per ticket. Sail to Annapolis
Annapolis will host the annual United States Sailboat Show Thursday-Monday, Oct. 9-13, at the City Dock and Harbor. Featured will be the hottest in new racing and cruising boats, sailing equipment and smaller boats, and information on cruising and vacation charters. Thursday is a day for trade, press and VIPs, and the hours will run 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Otherwise, show hours are Friday-Sunday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m., and Monday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission is $16 general and $8 for children 12 and younger. Memory Walk
Now is the time to sign up if you want to participate in the Alzheimer's Association's Towson Memory Walk on Saturday, Oct. 18, at Towson University's Burdick Field (8000 York Road, Towson). Registration begins at 8 a.m. for this rain-or-shine event, which is comprised of a 2 1/2-mile walk from Burdick Field around the perimeter of Towson University on the sidewalks of the surrounding streets. Celebrate wine
Boordy Vineyards continues its annual Autumn Wine Fest Sunday, Oct. 12, 1-5 p.m., with a performance by the traditional Irish music band Rossnareen. The event will also offer samples of its new vintages, wagon rides, food, crafts, and tours. It continues Sundays throughout the month. Admission is $12 general and $5 for kids ages 2-12.
