Formal wine events require some dressing up, but the upcoming Hallowine Party will require Halloween costumes when it happens Friday, Oct. 31, 9 p.m., in the 1840's Ballroom, located at 29 S. Front St. Costumes are urged by hosts Jerry Edwards of Chef's Expressions and Celeste Corsaro of Baltimore Eats magazine. There will also be an open bar, spooky hors d'oeuvres and "forbidding" wines. Scary sushi
The RA Sushi Bar Restaurant in Harbor East will host a Halloween party, the RA Sushi Boo-Bash 2008, Friday, Oct. 31, 10 p.m.-1 a.m., in the Eden Building at 1390 Lancaster St. The event will feature Halloween menu items like "satan's sangria" and the "Halloween roll." A taste of Italy
St. Leo's Roman Catholic Church in Little Italy will host its annual Fall Ravioli-Spaghetti Dinner Sunday, Nov. 2, noon-6 p.m., in the school hall (located at 910 Stiles St.). For this popular event, parishioners create homemade cheese-stuffed ravioli and meatballs. There's also imported spaghetti, Italian bread, salad and cannoli for dessert. Call 410-675-7275.
Native American Month
The Community College of Baltimore County's Essex Campus will host a National Native American Month Celebration Monday, Nov. 3, 11 a.m.-noon, in the K Building Student Lounge. This living history event will feature the Piscataway Indian Nation Singers and Dancers while it entertains and educates about the history, culture and contemporary issues of American Indians. A wine benefit
Now is the time to make plans if you want to attend the American Institute of Wine and Food's fundraising auction and dinner next Thursday, Nov. 6, 6-10 p.m., at the Grand Lodge at Boonie Blink (300 International Circle, Hunt Valley). Chef Jerry Edwards of Chef's Expression will provide catering. Proceeds will go to the community outreach student program of the institute's Baltimore chapter. Cost is $125 per person. Boordy gets soupy
Boordy Vineyards will again host its Soups in the Cellar series during Sundays in November. The series, which happens Nov. 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, 1-5 p.m., will let visitors sample Boordy's wines and enjoy Boordy'a specially prepared seasonal soups (like cream of Maryland crab and corn chowder and Mexican meatball. Musical acts will include the Mudbugs (Nov. 2), the Gigs (Nov. 9 and 23), Time Will Tell (Nov. 16), and Dan Deckman (Nov. 30). Admission is $15 per person. Call 410-592-5015.
A School exhibit
The School 33 Art Center will hold an opening celebration for its new exhibit, "Into the Light/Into the Dark," Saturday, Nov. 1, 6-9 p.m., at 1427 Light St. Featured will be a concert comprised of artists Steve Bradley, Andy Hayleck, Devin Hurd and curator Timothy Nohe who will mix elements of analog synthesis, acoustic and digital music together. Country crafts
The Country Peddler Craft Show, will set up shop Saturday-Sunday, Nov. 1-2, at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium. Over 140 craft vendors will be on hand selling items ranging from quilts to jewelry to fine art and rustic home décor. Hours are Saturday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Admission is $5 general and free for children ages 12 and younger. Call 717-656-3208.
Rail history
The 31st annual Gaithersburg Railroad and Transportation Show will get rolling Sunday, Nov. 2, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. Expect to see antique transportation artifacts (such as keys, caps, and lanterns) from old railroads, steamships, airlines and busses. Admission is $7; children under 12 are admitted free.
