Jan. 2 and 3: The inaugural Big Doug Classic junior varsity girls basketball tournament (Howard County vs. Carroll County). Participating teams: Atholton, Centennial, Glenelg, River Hill, Century, Francis Scott Key, North Carroll and McDonogh. Game times each day: 1, 3, 5 and 7 p.m. Admission: $4 (adult), $3 (student), under-6 (free). Due to water damage at Glenelg, the tournament will be held at Atholton, 6520 Freetown Road, Columbia.

Jan. 10: Howard County Cabaret Night, 8 p.m. Held by Shadow Block Productions of Columbia. Admission $5. Applications to perform are due Jan. 2. Slayton House, 10400 Cross Fox Lane, Columbia. 410-997-4896 or 410-979-9802.
