Howard County school officials this week announced a new partnership with Chapelgate Presbyterian Church, in Marriottsville, in which church volunteers will serve as mentors to students in the school system's teen parenting program.

The partnership is aimed at helping students develop academic and life skills, according to a news release.

Under the terms of the partnership, the church will organize four workshops each year to help students learn skills such as household budgeting. Volunteers from the church also will offer tutoring services and, if the church's resources allow, give financial assistance and supplies to the students and their families.
