Police investigate fatal shooting in Jessup

Howard County police are investigating a shooting that resulted in the death of a 17-year-old in Jessup Sept. 10.
Police found Michael Joseph Mullinax, 17, of Cambridge Court, Jessup, dead from a single gunshot wound to the chest in a house in the 8100 block of Sheffield Court at about 9:20 p.m. after responding to a report of a gunshot fired in a single family residence, according to police.
An investigation of the shooting is being conducted, police said.
Mullinax was visiting a 22-year-old man who lives at the house. Police said the two were friends.
They were alone in the basement when a shot was fired from a gun that was in the room, according to police. Mullinax was shot once in the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Police said they are withholding the identity of the 22-year-old until the investigation is complete.
