A federal jury convicted a Columbia man Sept. 11 of attempting to evade income taxes and failing to file tax returns on $895,000 in income from an information consulting business, according to U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod Rosenstein.

Anthony Edwin Dorsey Sr., 58, of Columbia was convicted in U.S. District Court in Baltimore on five counts of attempting to evade income taxes and seven counts of failing to file tax returns, according to a statement from Rosenstein.

Dorsey operated an information technology consulting service known as Allnet System Resources since 1999 and was responsible for paying federal and state income, payroll and Medicare taxes he received for his consulting service, according to Rosenstein. From 2001 to 2007 Dorsey was paid at least $895,000 and did not file federal tax returns or pay taxes on the income, according to Rosenstein.

Dorsey remains free on pre-sentencing release. He faces 25 years in prison on the tax evasion counts and seven years for failing to file income tax returns, according to Rosenstein.

U.S. District Judge Marvin J. Garbis scheduled sentencing for Dec. 1.

Dorsey's attorney Larry Bercraft of Huntsville, Ala. declined comment.
