At various points along Greencastle Road from U.S. Route 29 to Old Gunpowder Road, police were stopping and searching vehicles, including looking in trunks with weapons drawn, after a bank robbery this morning at Bank of America in Clarksville. Incoming drivers were turned away unless they were residents of the area.

Police shot and killed one of three men who they say robbed a
Clarksville bank this morning after a high-speed car chase that led
police through four counties.
The robbery occurred just before
9:15 a.m. at the Bank of America branch in the 6300 block of Ten Oaks
Road, when three men entered the bank and announced a robbery,
according to Howard police.
During the robbery, one of the men
shot a bank employee in the hand. The employee was taken to Union
Memorial Hospital, in Baltimore, for treatment, said Cpl. Jennifer
Reidy-Hall, a police spokeswoman.
The men, who made off with an undetermined amount of money, fled in a pick-up truck, police said.
Police,
alerted to the robbery by a 911 call and a hold-up alarm activated by
the bank, began chasing the pick-up truck after receiving a call from a
citizen who had followed the truck and provided its location to police.
Howard
police were joined in the pursuit by police from Anne Arundel, Prince
George's and Montgomery counties, as the truck led police through
each jurisdiction.
The chase route began at Ten Oaks Road,
police said, then continued on Route 32 East, Interstate-95 South,
Route 100 East, to Route 1 South and to Route 103 into Anne Arundel
County. From there, the chase traveled side roads to reach the
Baltimore-Washington Parkway, then continued on routes 197 and 198,
according to Reidy-Hall.
The three men abandoned the truck near
the intersection of Angelton Court and Greencastle Road, in Montgomery
County, and continued to run from police on foot, police said.
During the foot chase, one of the men fired a gun at police. Police returned fire, wounding the man, police said.
The
man was transported to Laurel Regional Hospital, where he died,
according to police. They did not immediately release the man's name.
Late yesterday afternoon, Montgomery County police confirmed that they had captured a second man -- identified today as Anirudh Lakhan Sukhu, 42, of Silver Spring -- they believe was
involved in the robbery. He was taken into custody in a
residential area near University Boulevard West and Dennis Avenue in the Four
Corners of Silver Spring, police said.
Sukhu has been charged with armed bank robbery, according to a spokeswoman from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the
District of Maryland. Sukhu had an initial appearance today in U.S. District Court in Baltimore, before U.S. Magistrate Judge James K. Bredar and was detained, pending a detention hearing scheduled for Nov. 25.
The search for the third man was
suspended about 4 p.m. yesterday because police believe the man was no longer in the
area. Police resumed their search today.
The FBI is taking the lead in the bank robbery investigation, according to
Montgomery County police.
Today, Howard County police announced they are offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of the third suspect. Anyone with information can call 410-313-3200.
