Mary L. Himmer

Mary Lee Himmer, of Ellicott City, formerly of Harford County, died July 30, 2008, of complications from Alzheimer's, at Morningside Assisted Living in Ellicott City. She was 76.

Born Jan. 3, 1932, in Carney, to Edison Lee and Mary Byer Epperley Wallis, she graduated from Towson High School in 1949.

She married David George Himmer in 1949.

Mrs. Himmer worked as a secretary for Weems Realty, a real estate office in Prince Frederick for seven years.

She also worked as a home care aide for an agency in Hartford County for a year in the late 1990s.

Family members recall that she worked for Meals on Wheels of Harford County for five years, first as a volunteer preparing food, then as a paid employee.

Mrs. Himmer enjoyed growing flowers and taking care of animals, especially her three cats, Blackie, Shanna and Lisa.

She was predeceased by her husband of 18 years, David George Himmer, who died in 1967; and a brother, Robert S. Wallis.

Mrs. Himmer is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, David G. and Susan Himmer, of Bel Air, and Keith A. and Maureen Himmer, of Abingdon; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Karen Himmer Becker and John J. Becker II, of Ellicott City, and Kathleen J. Himmer and Kenneth Roberts, of Lawrence, Kansas; four grandchildren, David G. Himmer III, Mathew R. Hood, Kelly E. Hood and Nicholas A. Himmer; and a great-grandchild, Savannah M. Himmer.

Funeral services were held Aug. 4, 2008, at Bel Air Church of the Nazarene, in Bel Air.

Interment followed at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church cemetery, in Bel Air.
