Joseph T. Naide

Joseph Thomas Naide, of Ellicott City, died Aug. 5, 2008, of cardiovascular disease, at the University of Maryland Medical Systems in Baltimore. He was 77.

He was born May 24, 1931 in Oella, to Charles Thomas and Catherine Shields Naide.

In the late 1940s, Mr. Naide enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a seaman first class and served on the USS AO55 Elokomin in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged after four years of service.

He worked as a security guard, beginning in 1964, for the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel. He retired in 1992 after 29 years.

Mr. Naide is survived by two sisters, Mary Geddings, of California and Sarah Jean Sherman, of Howard County; a brother, Alvin L. Naide, of the Eastern Shore; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Aug. 9, 2008, at Slack Funeral Home in Ellicott City. The Rev. Matthew Buening officiated.

Interment followed at Good Shepherd Cemetery in Ellicott City.
