Janet Lynn Dick, 47, a Laurel resident for 18 years, died Nov. 14, 2008 at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring.
Born March 10, 1961, in Tabriz, Iran, she was the daughter of Glen and Betty Jane Knecht. She attended Springbook High School and also earned an associate's degree. When she was 16, she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. She was a member of Bethany Community Church.
Mrs. Dick is survived by her husband, Jonathan Dick; son Jamie Dick; sisters Amy Frierson, Wendy Higgins and Beth Myers; and brothers Glen Knecht Jr. and Todd Knecht.
Memorial services were held Nov. 17 at noon at Bethany Community Church, with the Rev. Kevin McGhee officiating. Burial was at Union Cemetery in Burtonsville.

Florence S. Cross
Florence Swisher "Flo" Cross, 87, a resident of Laurel since 1953, who formerly lived in Aberdeen, died Nov. 13, 2008 at Laurel Regional Hospital.
Born March 14, 1921 in Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Charles D. and Anna B. (Wachsmuth) Swisher. She was a homemaker and member of the Laurel Presbyterian Church, where she was active in the women's group.
Her husband, James E. Cross Jr., a son, Richard Eugene Cross, a sister, Carrie L. Noyes, and a brother, Eugene M. Swisher, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Cross is survived by her daughter, Murphy Cross; sons James E. Cross III and his wife, Laurel S. Cross; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be Saturday, Nov. 22 at 11 a.m. at the Laurel Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Amy Schact officiating.

Louise E. Fincham
Louise Elenor Fincham, 71, of Savage, died Nov. 13, 2008 at Sanctuary at Holy Cross in Burtonsville.
Born May 3, 1937, in Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin J. and Rosetta M. (Keeney) Franklin. She worked as a waitress and manager at the Tastee Diner for 38 years. A sister, Nelda Walsh, and a brother, Albert Franklin, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Fincham is survived by her former husband, Carl Alvin Kates Sr.; children Carolyn Louise Baker, Carl A. Kates Jr., John Sly Kates, Desi G. Kates and Rosetta Dotula Rhodes; 26 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sisters Audrey Winters, Corine Sherman, Marion Eastwood, Dorothy Lipscomb, and Janice Fernando.
Visitation was Nov. 17 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Donaldson Funeral Home, 313 Talbott Ave. Funeral services followed at 4 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Chaplain Susie Kelly officiating.
Thelma L. Haggerty
Thelma Lillian Haggerty, 88, of Laurel, died Nov. 12, 2008.
She was born July 10, 1920 in Philadelphia, Pa. Her husband, John Robert Haggerty, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Haggerty is survived by her child, Diane Amos, and her husband, George, and John Haggerty and his wife, Lucy; grandchildren Tracey Harrison, Kelley Hodge, George Amos Jr. and John, Daniel, Jennifer and Michael Haggerty; and great-grandchildren Paul and Tyler Harrison and Brian, Katlyin and Madison Haggerty.

Kathleen Klimkiewicz
Kathleen Klimkiewicz, a resident of Laurel for 30 years, died Nov. 6, 2008.
She was born April 17, 1943 in Washington, D.C. She was a wildlife biologist for the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center. Her hobbies included bird banding, and breeding and showing dachshunds. A longtime member of the Metropolitan Dachshund Club, she was also a member of the Potomac Hound Club.
Ms. Klimkiewicz is survived by her siblings, Mary DeMott, Bill Klimkiewicz, Robert Klimkiewicz, Rita Roberts, Anna Keefe and Margaret Ambrogio.
Visitation will be Saturday, Nov. 22 from 1-2 p.m. at Fleck Funeral Home, 7601 Sandy Spring Road, with memorial services following.

Clifford J. Rees
Clifford J. Rees, a Laurel resident since 1960, died Nov. 12, 2008.
He was born in Llanelly, Wales. During World War II, he served in the British Army during the invasion of Normandy. He worked as a detective for Metropolitan Police (CID) at Scotland Yard, London, England. After coming to the United States in 1960, he worked as an insurance investigator until his retirement. He was active with the Iron Bridge Hunt Club when his daughters were members.
Mr. Rees is survived by his wife, Shirley A. Rees; children Heather Rees and her husband, David, and Aileen Ankrom and her husband, Scott; grandchildren Ashley and Samantha; and great-grandchild Taylor.

Ethel M. Whiting
Ethel Marie Whiting, 61, of Woodstock, died Nov. 16, 2008 at Frederick Villa Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Catonsville.
She was born July 5, 1947 in Maryland, and grew up in Elkridge. She also lived in Laurel. She worked as a cashier at Home Depot in Catonsville, and lived in Laurel for a few years.
Surviving are her husband of 40 years, Clarence Whiting; sons Stewart Wesley Whiting and Robert Joseph Whiting; sisters Petie Scofield, Peggy Stump and Joanne Croak; and niece Betty Sellars.
Visitation is Nov. 20 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Donaldson Funeral Home, 313 Talbott Ave., with services at 8:30 p.m. with Chaplain Susie Kelly officiating.
