Cheerleading

The Ravens eXtreme Allstars are offering special needs boys and girls the opportunity to join a sport that otherwise might not be available to them. Golf

The First Tee of Howard County is accepting applications for fall sessions beginning in September. Baseball

The spring 10-U Western Howard County Renegades are sponsoring a free baseball clinic on Sunday, Aug. 17. The clinic will be run by coaches and players from the college and professional levels. The county recreation department is accepting registration for the Western Howard County Fall Youth Baseball League (boys ages 7-18). Games are played on Sunday afternoons at county locations. Cost: $75 per child ($5 discount for each additional child in the family). Columbia/Clarksville area residents in the 7-8 and 9-10 age groups can register in separate sections for that area. The Sykesville Cyclones (U-12) continue open workouts Aug. 3 and 17 from 4-6 p.m. at Freedom Park. Tryouts will be held Sept. 21, 28 and Oct. 5. Volleyball

The Volleyball House, in Elkridge, is hosting the Bob Bertucci Volleyball Camp, Aug. 7-13. Individual skills camps are held Aug. 7-9 and 11-13. The three-day team camp is Aug. 11-13. The Soccer Association of Columbia U-12 boys premier team is looking for two more players for its upcoming fall and spring seasons. The team is in need of defensive players and a goalkeeper. The Savage Boys and Girls Club is registering for its fall flag football season until midnight, Aug. 31. The league will have three age divisions and is open to boys and girls ages 6-14. Sports physicals

Softball

The Western Howard County Fever fast pitch travel softball program will be holding tryouts for both the 12-U and 10-U levels Aug. 17 and Aug. 24. The program is looking to field two 12-U teams and at least one 10-U team. Tryouts will be held at Western Regional Park in Glenwood. Table tennis/chess

The Howard County/Carroll County Table Tennis Club will host day camps for table tennis and chess in the Carrolltown Center in Eldersburg Aug. 4-8 and Aug. 18-22. Campers may choose table tennis only, chess only, or a mix of the two. The full-day camp runs from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a lunch break. Fees based on week, full-day, or half-day options. High school sports

Mt. Hebron High School will hold its Fall Athletic Sign-up night Aug. 12, 4:30-6 p.m., in the school's cafeteria. Students trying out for a fall sport at Mt. Hebron should plan on attending and must bring a completed and signed physical examination form, a completed and signed parent permission form (both of which can be downloaded from hcpss.org), a photo copy of their birth certificate (not required for those who have previously played a sport at Mt. Hebron), a copy of their fourth quarter report card (not required for incoming freshmen) and a copy of proof of residency in the form of either a recent electric bill or land-line phone bill.

Student candidates for fall sports participation in grades 10-12 must meet the HCPSS Academic Eligibility policy for extra-curricular participation (at least a 2.0 grade-point average and no "E" grades on their fourth-quarter report card).
