Field hockey
The Spitfire Field Hockey Club will hold tryouts Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 4-5 at the Rockville Sportsplex. The indoor season begins in December. Teams will play in local leagues and tournaments. The more competitive U-16 and U-19 teams will strive to qualify for the national indoor tournament. Tryout cost: $15. Tryout times:

The River Hill field hockey team will hold a field hockey clinic for elementary and middle school girls Oct. 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The clinic will include instruction and drills. The last hour will consist of games. Cost: $40 per player. Bring water bottle, mouth guard, shin guards and a stick. (A few sticks are available for loan.)
