Soccer

Columbia Soccer Club travel

The Columbia Soccer Club Storm Runners (U-13 girls) kept their unbeaten (4-0) Baltimore Beltway Soccer League season intact with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the previously unbeaten South Carroll Pride Oct. 4.

The Pride notched the only goal of the first half despite the Storm Runners' strong defense. Led by goalie Katherine MacKie and defenders Erica Noppinger, Becca Riley, Vivian Yang, Gabbie Stegall and Kennedy Citro, the Storm Runners defense shutout the Pride in the second half and kick started the team's offense through smart passing.

Constant pressure applied by the Storm Runners' front line paid off with two second-half goals -- one, a tap in by Mckenzie Rynn after a beautiful run and cross by Imani Lipscomb, and the winning goal by Christina Kochanski whose rocket from the top of the box was in the corner of the net before the Pride goalie could react.

Forwards Maddie Jones, Julie Delmont and Sarah Levin and midfielders Megan Blodgett, Emily Powers and Jenny Haynes kept the ball in the Pride end of the field by consistently beating the Pride players to the ball and keeping possession through deft passing and ball movement.

Racks ran the second-half kickoff back for his second score of the day.

Quincy Wilcox, Corey Sexton, Chancellor Barnard and Mike Cornwell suffocated the Arbutus offense from start to finish. Cristion Oliphant galloped 15 yards for the final touchdown. Justin Ballmer kicked two extra points in the game.
